The Journal and Mentoring Academy hosts its first homogrown PhD seminar  presentation series

Feb. 20, 2017

The activity was organized under the guidance of Dr. Job Kasule (International Scientific Coordinator, TTU) in collaboration with JiT officials, notably Dr. Tamene Adugna (Scientific-Director, JiT), Prof. Esayas Alemayehu (Vice Scientific-Director, JiT), Dr. Towfic Jemal (Director for Postgraduate, Research and Publication, JiT), Mr. Mamuye Busier (Dean of School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, JiT), and Mr. Abdissa Tolera (Coordinator, PhD Homegrown Program, JiT). All the PhD students from Dire Dawa Institute of Technology (DDiT), Arba Minch Institute of Technology (AMiT), and all but two students from JiT attended the seminar.

Students were asked to select a journal paper and present it as if it were their own work. They had to justify why they selected the given paper and also provide an in-depth critique of the strengths and weaknesses of the paper. Students were evaluated on their performance during the seminar presentations by a select committee of senior faculty. These included Dr. Job Kasule, Dr. Tamene Adugna, Prof. Esayas Alemayehu, Prof. Venkata, Dr. Dejene, Dr. Towfic Jemal, and Prof. Emert Quezon. The evaluation focused on four major areas: Slides Quality; Presentation Style, Mastery of Subject Matter; and Response to Questions. At the end of the presentation, the evaluation results were compiled for which the top three presenters were identified. For this series, the top three presenters were Mr. Shihunegn Alemayehu and Mr. Murad Mohammad, who tied in the 1st place, and Mr. Worku Koshe who was in the 3rd place. Congratulations to the top three presenters.
